grateful-friday-5s

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find publication week both exhilarating and terrifying. All those months of writing, editing, revising and wondering how my baby will be recieved are now put to the test. Will the readers like Nikki? Will people review it? Will I waken up and find it’s all a dream?

However, there are some very definate things to be grateful for during this stressful time. These are just 5 of them and, I hasten to add, they are in no particular order.

I would love to know what makes other author gratefull on publication week. Why not leave a comment at the bottom of this post?

Reasons to be grateful number 1: The family.

As any writer will tell you, support and encouragement from those around you is essential. The endless cups of tea, the cooking of meals, the catching up with the housework, the timely hugs and most of all their unfailing sonfidence n me and my abilities. You can’t bottle that and I am grateful, beyond easure to have such a wonderful family keeping me going.

Reasons to be grateful number 2: Bloggers, Online Book Groups and Readers

The bloggers on my Last Request Blog Tour were, as ever, terrific. Their unwavering support, energy and determination to get the book love out there never ceases to amaze me. I don’t know if you realise this, but Bloggers do this out of the goodness of their hearts and for their love of books.

But it’s not only the bloggers who were on my tour that I’m grateful for. It’s also those who tweet and retweet and share posts and reviews. The blogging community is awesome! Thank you all for your help and support.

I am a member of many online book groups and find them a phenomonal source of support and encouragement. I love interacting with readers and have been lucky enough to have had some lovely interactions in a variety of book groups this week.

Reasons to be grateful number 3: Reviews

Leaving reviews is lifeblood for an author. It’s not just to do with Amazon’s algorithims that give increased visibility to books with reviews, although that’s essential. It’s also about seeing what the readers really think. About recieving feedback and encouragement. Ok, we all hope not to get many under three *s but even the negative ones can be useful (as long as there are no spoilers or venom) Remember, us authors have feelings.

I’ve been so lucky this week to get some lovely reviews for Last Request and appreciate and am grateful for each of you who have taken the time to leave a review or a rating. Huge thanks!

Reasons to be grateful number 4: My Publishers

I was thrilled when HQ Digital (a Harper Collins imprint) saw somethin in D.S. Nikki Parekh and signed me up for a three book deal. They have been brilliant. My editor, Belinda Toor, gives me all the support I need and I really appreciated the detailed edits which were both constructive and encouraging. More than that, I love that I feel nurtured despite being part of a huge publishers. HQ have really got behind Nikki , from producing postcards, to creating a cracking blog tour, to excellent and frequent publicity, to letting me loose on The Pigeonhole, an online book group that was so much fun to do. They also let me feature on the HQ Blog, which was a privilege and they created this fantastically atmospheric promotional video. Thanks to the team at HQ!

Reasons to be grateful number 5: Prosecco, chocs and flowers

Of course, no publication week would be complete without treats. My husband is very well trained … Prosecco chilled, chocs ready and flowers bought, to celebrate publication day. I knew there was a reason I still kept a hold of him after 32 years!
